I can’t speak of this place now in the year 2017. But back in college I was a volunteer here and I loved it, the kids were all happy and the people were happy. It was in early to mid 90s. James Greene was an awesome man! And Robbie was a nice guy as well. They genuinely cared and loved the people.

My family donates to Star of Hope. I've read all the reviews here, and it seems likely that that those stating that you get what you make of of it are right. Lots of critics here who sound like they are biting the hand that feeds to to their own attitude problems. I'm sending another contribution, because God helps those who learn to help themselves. I'm not interested in enabling addiction or supporting "the world owes me because I exist and want things my way" attitudes. Have some humility, respect, work ethic, discipline, belief in prayer and love for God. Things don't usually change overnight, but you may be pleasantly surprised in the long with a much better life. That's how it went for me.

To the men that run Star of Hope. Recently i went due to Hurricane Harvey. I felt this was a good several days to pray. There were few bibles and they cannot be removed from the chapel. I had the bible on my phone, it was taken and put in storage according to policy. After using the chapel to pray 2 days, I was locked out on day 3. It is impossible to pray in the dayroom everyone is made to sit in. Thank you for your help during the hurricane.

My observation is that the majority of people who complain about the structure of the shelter is do to their lack of respect for authority, policies and procedures. Not just at the Star of Hope but anywhere in life. If you redirect your focus from everything that is wrong and instead use the resources that are available to all residents who truly are seeking life change. Although it does take hard work and dedication, I can assure you that the results will be most beneficial to you in the long run. There are many success stories as a result of keeping a healthy attitude. We should all seek postive life change in our day to day if we sincerely wish to better ourselves. I am disheartened that many have missed the sole purpose of the Star of Hope as well as a chance for healing and salvation. We all have to follow rules in this life. It's important that we hold OURSELVES accountable! Without it we should expect failure and negative results. I pray God's amazing grace for those that are lost. Hurray for the Star of Hope!!! What an awesome way to serve God...

Star of hope is a good place to be. Church was excellent. The staff is caring but firm. They ask for money after you are able to stand on your own. They provide a place to sleep, eat and computers to find work. Job coaches are also available. They revised my resume and pointed me in the right direction. Give them a try! May God continue to bless the star of hope and the staff.
